In this article, we will list all the best VR games available for PSVR 2, which are coming and which are rumored. Over 100 games have been announced for the new console VR headset and so this article will help you choose which games to play.
The games we highlight for the PSVR 2 are:
Initially thought of as a tech demo, Horizon Call Of The Mountain is the system-seller game on PSVR2’s launch day with a full 6-hour campaign and awe-inspiring visuals. Looking to take full advantage of dynamic foveated rendering on the PSVR 2. It is developed by PlayStation Studios’ first-party developers Guerrilla Games and Firesprite, Call of the Mountain is set within the popular Horizon futuristic and post-apocalyptic universe.
Resident Evil Village will land on PSVR 2 on launch day and I can confirm that if you think Resident Evil 7 is terrifying, Village will knock your socks off. Namely, the PSVR 2’s dual OLEDs and High-Dynamic Range mean the dark scenes are completely black adding to the atmosphere, while the advanced in-headset haptics means you feel when a monster is attacking you from your blind spot.
The first Gran Turismo Sport was immensely popular on the original PSVR as racing sims seem tailor-made for virtual reality. Today, Gran Turismo 7 in PSVR2 is one of the best VR racing experiences you can have, period. The reason is simple, it is the original 2D game fully realized in virtual reality with 20 AI track competitors, a story mode, online lobbies, and a ranked sports mode with other racers. If you are into racing games, this hands-down is the best console VR racing experience you will get.
Demeo made its rounds in 2021 as a compelling Dungeons & Dragons inspired party-game for PC and virtual reality. Now, this tabletop RPG dungeon-crawler will release for PSVR 2 and, by extension, become one of the must-have titles on the new VR console. One feature we are excited to experience is the developer announced Demeo will take full advantage of the immersive in-headset haptics on PSVR 2.
Initially released on Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 in 2020, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge will get a makeover for the PSVR 2, including the Last Call DLC in the final package. If you haven’t played Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, we recommend waiting to play it on PSVR 2 as the updates it will get surely will leave one stunted.
The Light Brigade is an atmospheric single-player VR experience, using procedurally generated levels to deliver an endless gameplay experience. You will use weapons and magic in equal measure to unlock new weapons, spells, shops, and classes as a true RPG. What struck us from the trailer was the excellent 8D sound design as the weapons pop and magic flares.
The first Moss was one of the first virtual reality games that delivered a compelling story and engaging action-adventure gameplay. So it would surprise us if the sequel Moss Book 2 isn’t also on PSVR. Like the first game, you play as Quill, the mouse on a quest to save her fallen kingdom. Although, we have one reservation as the first game was ported late to PSVR, so it might be some time before we see Moss Book 2 for PSVR 2.
City-building games and virtual reality is a match made in heaven, and Cities VR is no exception. Fast Travel Games got hold of Paradox’s recognized city-builder, Cities: Skylines, to build the virtual reality version: Cities VR – Enhanced Edition for the PSVR2 and it is as great as ever. Definitely give it a whirl if you haven’t yet.
From the developing hands of Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator, the new Cosmonious High will deliver a PS VR2 title labeled for “everyone” but with a tinge of edgy humor as the setting is high school and you navigate the drama using your alien superpowers. While Cosmonious High is available on PC VR, the PS VR2 version will have 4K rendering, dynamic shadows, and player avatars with real-time eye contact from PlayStation VR2’s eye tracking.
A boomer-shooter genre that doesn’t get enough recognition is rhythm shooters and, namely, VR rhythm shooters. Pistol Whip VR, originally released on PS VR, is a pulsating VR rhythm shooter that visually resembles a colorful Superhot VR. If you own the PS VR version, there is no excuse, as you can pick this PS VR2 edition up free of charge.
Zenith: The Last City is a cross-play enabled VR MMORPG that just got larger with it coming to PS VR2. While it still is in Early Access, Zenith has since added hundreds of unique gameplay hours worth of content and a visual overhaul. We feature this title in our Meta / Oculus Quest 2 games list, and while it still has a few bugs to be ironed out, you buy this title for the prospect of a VR MMORPG, and, indeed, many of these kinks are fixed!
If you are in the mood for a four-player coop shooter RPG, After the Fall is for you. Set in a frozen post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, different types of monstrous enemies will hurl toward you and your friends. The game features different types of guns with numerous inventive upgrades that can be installed as you process and become stronger.
Tentacular is a silly and humorous physics-destruction title with a dash of God game. Originally released in March 2022 for Oculus Quest 2 and SteamVR, you play as a massive kaiju that can either be friendly towards the island in front of you, helping them complete tasks, or destructive in bringing creative mayhem to the island of Lakalma.
Originally released for Quest VR headset in 2020 and featuring the talented voice cast of Laura Bailey and Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World Aftermath is a shell-shaded adventure game, containing both Part 1 and Part 2 for the PS VR2.
It was an excellent move for PlayStation to get this transportive VR title to their launch lineup. Kayak Mirage is one of the best VR sports games with a relaxing or competitive edge. It is one of those VR games that is excellent for VR veterans and newcomers alike. We are particularly eager to experience the captivating scenery as we paddle down icy glaziers, rocky desert ravines, and tropical paradise.
Pavlov is one of the best team shooters in VR and was in many ways given to be ported to PlayStation VR2. Nevertheless, the fact that it is a launch title for the new console VR headset means that it connects with many VR gamers looking for these FPS experiences. Also, the developer has alluded to crossplay functionality with the Quest version.
Available a year ago on PlayStation VR, Puzzling Places is a meditative 3D puzzle game (in the literal sense) in virtual reality. What makes this game a go-to for me after a hard day’s work is the impeccable sound design and listening to it through the PSVR 2’s Tempest 3D Audio. It is one of those minimalistic VR games where its simplicity makes the game better.
Anyone who has lost hours in Factorio knows the hook the base building and automation genre elicit. The Last Clockwinder has this same hook but in virtual reality and where your movements are the machines being recorded, repeated, and designed in automation. It sounds complicated but it is incredibly intuitive and is one of the best VR ‘sleeper hits’ few know about.
While Cities VR and Townsmen VR have one thing in common being city builders, they couldn’t be further apart. Because Townsmen VR has the God Game genre mixed into its city management mechanics. Yet, what really stood out with this title was how the in-headset haptics added to the immersion when you called upon natural disasters like earthquakes upon your townspeople, just for that reason you should pick this one up.
The sequel to one of the best VR titles, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, is set to arrive on PSVR 2. For this second edition, Retribution makes you step into the shoes of Tourist once more in the historic city of New Orleans. This time you are pitted up against the Axeman and will deliver action first-person VR gameplay again with more refinement in its physics-based combat and immersive visuals.
The best arcadey and relaxing sports game (next to Kayak VR: Mirage) will be released for the PSVR 2 with crossplay compatibility between Steam, Quest, and Pico. This meditative and, if you want, competitive minigolf VR game needs to be everywhere, so we are delighted to see it on PlayStation VR2.
Despite its tumultuous beginnings, No Man’s Sky has received numerous content updates far exceeding many triple-A titles. No Man’s Sky is a space exploration adventure game with base-building and FPS mechanics. Its tagline of ‘an endless universe generated procedurally’ lives up to the title and is more immersive and exciting in virtual reality.
As Sony’s first-party developer Supermassive Games’ released the launch title Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, will they do it again? This time Supermassive will release The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR for PS VR2, taking full advantage of the headset’s built-in haptics for an unforgettable and horrifying rollercoaster experience set in 17th-century New England hunting persecuted ‘witches’.
Crossfire is a first-person shooter prompting you to investigate the production of a top-secret bioweapon. The VR game’s campaign is 60 missions you will shoot your way through from 39 different weapon types. We are particularly excited about the beautiful graphics the announcement trailer portrays, looking to take full advantage of dynamic foveated rendering!
Find out what is really going on with your next-door neighbor. Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue is the newest addition to the popular Hello Neighbor franchise by tinyBuild. It is a stealth-horror puzzle game where you switch between five playable characters with their own traits and weaknesses to solve environmental puzzles while being hunted by ‘The Neighbor’.
This exercise and rhythm VR game where you beat neon-colored blocks with a plasma stick to the sound of music you choose has become an instant classic in VR gaming. While it may have felt inevitable it is delightful to announce that Beat Saber will come to the PSVR 2.
A VR game that will take full advantage of the built-in eye tracking for the PSVR 2 is Before Your Eyes. A story-driven VR title telling a touchingly human story about memories and their loss of them. Because time and the story only move forward when you blink. This effectively means that you will fight your way to not blink and dry out your eyes to discover a bit more of the story until… Blink. It moves on.
Despite its dated original release of 2018, Creed Rise to Glory is a formidable VR exercise game with an engaging story mode. Even then, the PSVR 2 version will be the Championship Edition with new game content, play modes, and improved online multiplayer with crossplay functionality so you aren’t stuck in a lobby waiting for an opponent.
With a memorable cell-shaded art style that takes full advantage of the high contrast of the PSVR2 OLEDs, Among Us VR takes the original concept of 8 players solving mini-games on an isolated spaceship while two players secretly are tasked to murder the other players. It is a simple and incredibly effective premise that took the gaming world by storm two years ago and now has improved for virtual reality with a likely resurgence.
Released sometime in 2023, Green Hell VR is the original survival horror and base-building game focused on realism but in immersive virtual reality. Namely, what impresses me in the PC VR version of Green Hell VR is its enormous map that the PlayStation 5 is sure to render with a breeze in its 10 to 15 hours of story-driven gameplay.
A wholly new VR game in development for the PSVR 2, Firmament is from the respective walking sim developer Cyan World who became famous with the genre-defining Myst. We will see Firmament in 2023 and I can’t wait!
While the release date is uncertain, Sony and Valve, the developer behind Alyx, have entered a partnership to bring Half-Life: Alyx to PSVR 2. The award-winning game can only be experienced on PC VR through the SteamVR platform, and we have been waiting to get the game to console VR, which it seems will happen. If anything, for PSVR 2 to gain broad appeal and players, Half-Life: Alyx is one of the pivotal games to achieve this.
Hitman 3 was one of the standout titles for PSVR, who wouldn’t experience Agent 47 from a first-person perspective. Currently, Hitman 3 is not accessible on the new PS5 console, so it makes sense that I/O Interactive, the developer, ports the game to PSVR 2 – hopefully with some upgrades to elevate the experience.
Initially caught on PlayStation’s official German-language blog to be slated for the PSVR 2, Wanderer is an atmospheric and story-driven walking sim puzzler that uses time travel to tell its story and designs its puzzles with occasional moments of action.
GORN is one of the best hack-and-slash arena VR games from the respected developer behind Broforce. It mirrors the same crude and distinctive humor the devs’ games are known for, while also being incredibly fun to play in short bursts.
