At Immerse Global Summit (IGS) 2022 Europe, Lenovo announced a new mixed and reality headset: the ThinkReality VRX. The ThinkReality VRX is a 6DoF standalone virtual reality headset with full-color video pass-through. ThinkReality VRX will be available in early 2023 with no announced price.
We don’t have a specific shipping date for ThinkReality VRX. However, select Lenovo partners can expect the mixed reality headset in Q4-2022, with a wider global release in Q1-2023.
Because the ThinkReality VRX targets the office, most desk work does not require 6 degrees of freedom. So to conserve battery and enable processing-heavy applications, the new MR headset from Lenovo will be able to shift between 3DoF and 6DoF.
Jason McGuigan, Head of Commercial for VR at Lenovo, said in an interview: “We really are contending, especially with this device, with the hybrid workforce.”
To enable mixed reality features and open up the headset for productivity and office use, ThinkReality VRX has stereoscopic cameras providing full-color RGB video pass-through. This a pivotal feature for office users, as the headset must be usable in collaborative environments.
Replacing the traditional desk setup requires several features, one of them being superior comfort after hours of use. Like most new VR headsets arriving in late 2022 and 2023, ThinkReality VRX will have the innovative pancake lens enabling a smaller, lighter and slimmer form factor, increasing comfort.
