The Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise and Meta Quest 3s were both announced and released in late 2024 with the Quest 3s being marketed as the newest Quest’s line budget option and the Ultra Enterprise being Pico’s latest enterprise-specific headset.
On that note, this article will look at the differences between the two headsets to show their respective benefits and use cases.
The Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise has a higher resolution than the Meta Quest 3s at 2160 x 2160 versus 1832 x 1920 per eye. The Ultra Enterprise also has a greater visible FOV (field of view) at 104 horizontal/103 vertical vs 97 horizontal/93 vertical. One of the most significant differences is that the Ultra Enterprise uses pancake lenses instead of Fresnel lenses like the Quest 3s. Read more about the differences between Pancake lenses and Fresnel lenses here.
These advantages all add up to provide a clearer and more immersive viewing experience on the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise. However, it should be noted that the Quest 3s has 90 Hz and 120 Hz refresh rate options over the Ultra Enterprise’s standard 90 Hz. This means that the Quest 3s can have smoother graphics when running visually demanding apps.
The Meta Quest 3s comes equipped with hand and upper body tracking along with leg estimation positioning which will result in more accurate movements in VR experiences. Conversely, the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise only comes equipped with hand tracking.
However, the Ultra Enterprise is compatible with Pico Motion Trackers which allow for full-body and high-precision tracking. The downside is that these trackers do not come with the headset and are sold separately. Read more about the Pico Motion Tracker.
Both the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise and Meta Quest 3s use the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, giving them plenty of power. However, they differ in memory and WiFi capability. The Ultra Enterprise has 12 GB of memory over the Quest 3s’ 8 GB. Practically, this means that a greater number of apps can be opened and used at once on the Ultra Enterprise—making it better for multitasking.
Additionally, the Ultra Enterprise supports WiFi 7 whereas the Quest 3s’ supports WiFi 6E. WiFi 7 is faster and operates on smaller bands. In practice, this means that more devices can be used on WiFi 7 and at higher speeds than on WiFi 6E. This is particularly beneficial in enterprise use when a number of devices may be in use at once.
The Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise runs on Pico’s Enterprise OS system and has access to the Pico Business Store. The headset is specifically designed with enterprise users in mind, especially for XR use cases. Users can take advantage of SDKs (software development kits) for custom application development along with admin features such as Pico Business Device Manager to control and configure multiple devices.
On the other hand, the Meta Quest 3s is not an enterprise-specific headset; however, users can purchase a Meta Quest for Business subscription to gain access to enterprise-level capabilities and apps. Features such as MDM (mobile device management) and the ability to download private APKs (android package kits) are available with the subscription.
The Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise is an enterprise-ready headset with integrated features specifically designed for business use. It also offers a great viewing experience with high resolutions and clear visuals. As such, it is a great out-of-the-box solution for businesses.
On the other hand, the Meta Quest 3s offers similar performance at a reduced price. Plus, it comes with integrated upper body tracking and is compatible with a Meta Quest for Business license. With that said, it is a great budget option for businesses, especially those who are already using Meta Quest for Business.
