In this article, you will learn all about the upgrades Pico has given its new VR headset and what advantages the Pico Neo 3 Pro has over its predecessor.
We will go into detail about the following aspects:
The design of the new headset has hardly been revised. Only the arrangement of the cameras has been changed due to the increase to four cameras instead of two. They are no longer located on the front of the VR headset on the Pico Neo 3, but two in the top corners and two in the bottom corners.
Similar to its predecessor, the Neo 3 Pro has a 4K display but in the new headset it is curved for the form factor. The main difference in the new display is that the Pico Neo 3 has an increased refresh rate of 90 Hz. The field of view got a minor downgrade from 101° to 98° in the Neo 3 Pro.
Thanks to double the number of cameras, the tracking of the new Neo 3 Pro works better than ever before. The four integrated cameras ensure that millimeter-precise inside-out tracking is possible with the new Pico Neo 3 Pro. Another major update compared to the Pico Neo 2 is hand tracking. With the help of this new feature, users can operate the device with their hands even without a controller. While the predecessor still relied on magnetic field tracking, Pico introduces optical tracking in the Neo 3. The main benefit of optical tracking is the increased tracking accuracy, but hand tracking is also possible with the new tracking system. The maximum tracking area is 10×10 meters, which was only at 3×3 on the Pico Neo 2.
The controllers of the new VR headset have been changed from the ground up. Due to the new optical tracking system, the controllers are equipped with tracking rings consisting of 32 sensors, which also provide an improved haptic response.
Pico relies on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor for its new VR headset. The Neo 2 only had the older Snapdragon 845. With the upgrade of the processor, the Neo 3 Pro achieves a major performance upgrade. The increase of the refresh rate from 75 to 90 Hz will make the content look smoother and more realistic. Other features, such as the newly adopted WiFi 6, are also made possible by the new processor. WiFi 6 supports high data rates and has an increased performance in environments with many connected devices. Thanks to this, the Neo 3 will have wireless PC VR streaming.
The operating system of the Pico Neo 3 Pro will be Android. This was also the system that was used by the Neo 2 Headset.
The Neo 3 is currently priced at 599 Euros, which is about the same price range as its predecessor. The Pico Neo 2’s price is 550 Euros at the moment.
Pico has improved its headset and has some useful additional features, such as hand tracking or WiFi streaming.
With all these new features the Pico Neo 3 is indeed an upgrade to its predecessor and will offer a satisfactory experience for all kinds of business purposes.
