A variety of promising VR and AR headsets were released in 2024, such as the Meta Quest 3S, the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise, and the HTC Vive Focus Vision. 2025 will likely see the release of many more headsets.

With that said, this article will look at confirmed, unconfirmed, and rumored headsets of 2025.

List of Headsets

  • Samsung XR Headset
  • Apple Vision Pro 2/Lite
  • Valve Index 2
  • Asus ROG VR
  • Lenovo Headset

Confirmed Releases

Samsung XR Headset

As of now, the only major headset with a confirmed 2025 release date is Samsung’s XR headset. The device will likely be priced between the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro and may be equipped with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 or the Gen 3—if Qualcomm releases it in time. With either chip, Samsung’s headset will be capable of advanced tracking and MR (mixed reality) capabilities.

Samsung has teamed up with Google—likely for AI and OS (operating system) assistance. As such, it’s thought that the headset will run on Android 14, which will give third-party developers more room to make their software/applications compatible with the device. It’s possible that the headset will come in two iterations—a traditional AR and VR device like the Apple Vision Pro, and an AR smart glasses device like the Magic Leap 2.

Unconfirmed Releases

Apple Vision Pro 2/Lite

Apple hinted that they may release second-gen Apple Vision Pro devices in 2025. While not much is known, it is assumed that one will be a high-end version and the other a “Lite” version that will be more accessible to a wider consumer base.

Valve Index 2

The Valve Index 2 is expected to be released in 2025 since it was not announced by the end of October 2024, but nothing is certain. The Valve Index 1 is known as a powerful VR device made for gaming. It’s safe to say that the next generation will have upgraded specs—likely with increased resolution to enhance the FOV (field of view) which was an impressive 130 degrees on the first generation. Rumors suggest that it will be a stand-alone headset, which will allow it to function on its own without being connected to a computer. Whatever it ends up being, Valve will likely keep its target audience (gamers) in mind.

Asus ROG VR

Not much is known about Asus’ new ROG VR headset, but it is rumored to be unveiled at CES 2025 in January. The device will be a performance gaming headset and will be compatible with Horizon OS. Because it will be a gaming VR headset, it will likely be a higher-end device that could be priced between the Meta Quest 3 and the Apple Vision Pro.

Rumored Headsets

Lenovo Headset

Little is known about Lenovo’s new headset or when it will be released, but it is thought that it will be compatible with Horizon OS just like the Asus ROG VR. In the past, Lenovo has experimented with a wide range of VR and AR headsets and smart glasses, but since it will be compatible with Horizon OS, it will likely have both VR and AR capabilities.

Final Thoughts

The good news is that 2025 will likely bring more conservatively priced headsets after the Apple Vision Pro’s poor market performance. With Meta’s attempts to make Horizon OS more open, it’s also likely that a greater number of future headsets will be compatible with Meta’s OS like Asus’ and possibly Lenovo’s up-and-coming devices. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 3 chip, though not yet released, will likely see use in 2025—competing against Apple’s M2 chip used in the Apple Vision Pro.
