Released in late 2022, the Meta Quest Pro still boasts impressive capabilities and can compete with the new HTC Vive Focus Vision, which was announced in September 2024.
With that being said, this article will look at the differences between the two headsets to show the benefits of each.
The HTC Vive Focus Vision has a greater FOV (field of view) of 120 degrees versus the Meta Quest Pro’s 106. The Focus Vision also offers more resolution per eye (2448 x 2448 vs. 1800 x 1920). This translates to a more immersive feel when using the Focus Vision over the Quest. However, it should be noted that the Quest uses pancake lenses over the Focus Vision’s Fresnel lenses. Pancake lenses are known for offering a more clear/less distorted viewing experience than Fresnel lenses, read more about the differences here. With that said, while the resolution may be lower on the Quest, it still has sharp visuals.
While both the Vive Focus Vision and Meta Quest Pro have 12 GB of memory and powerful processors making them great for multi-tasking, the Quest has the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ over the Focus Vision’s less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2. The XR2+ offers 20% higher CPU power and 15% higher GPU power. In practice, this translates to a more seamless viewing and usage experience—especially with more demanding apps.
Unlike the Meta Quest Pro, the Vive Focus Vision features a hot-swappable battery along with a mini reserve battery, allowing the user to replace the battery mid-use without any interruption. This means that the Focus Vision will have about double the run time of the Quest. The Quest, on the other hand, offers about two hours of run time; however, it comes with a two-meter charging cable, allowing the device to be plugged in while in use.
The Meta Quest Pro is compatible with Meta Quest for Business allowing enterprise users to take advantage of Meta’s business features such as MDM (mobile device management) and the ability to download APKs (android package kits). On the other hand, the Vive Focus Vision offers an XR ecosystem for enterprise use and LBE (Location Based Entertainment) licenses. The ecosystem comes with many of the same features as Meta’s including centralized device management. Vive’s ecosystem is primarily geared toward XR use from creating 3D interactive designs to training and simulation environments.
The Vive Focus Vision comes with 128 GB of storage versus the Meta Quest Pro’s 256 GB. Unlike the Quest, however, the Focus Vision has expandable storage up to 2 TB. This means that more apps and data can be stored on the Focus Vision, which in turn gives the user more flexibility in how the headset is used.
Both headsets are priced similarly with the Meta Quest Pro being slightly more affordable at €1,100 versus the Vive Focus Vision at €1,249. When it comes to choosing between them, the Meta Quest Pro is ideal for users who are already using Meta Quest for Business and want a capable headset for VR and AR use. Conversely, for users who need more storage or plan to use the device for XR use cases, the Vive Focus Vision is the clear choice.
